Dental Hygienists: The Dentist’s Right Hand

Dental hygienists are an important part of a dental office, normally working alongside dentists and dental assistants to help clean and maintain patients’ teeth. Dental hygienists differ from dental assistants in that they need slightly more education — at least an associate’s degree — and they are required to be licensed. Other job requirements vary between states. However, dental hygienists also earn higher salaries than dental assistants, with median annual salaries being in the high $60k range.
